Library Laws and Crime

I cannot say that I agree with the idea of a person being jailed for not paying a library fine.  At the same time, as a librarian, library fines are essential revenue for public libraries.

If you owe money to your library for late books, please don’t complain.  Please don’t try to cajole the circulation staff into deleting the fine. Chances are, paying it will only cost you a minimal amount of money.  And from the library’s point of view, if every person who owed fines to the library paid up, the library would bring in a significant amount of money.

Enjoy!

  1. I was going to send you an article on a Finnish guy that returned a hundred year overdue book, but I figured you’ve probably got library news spilling out of your eyes and ears.
